TANZANIA SOCIETY OF TRAVEL AGENTS (TASOTA)

The Tanzania Society of Travel Agents (TASOTA) is a membership-based organization that has represented the interests of Tanzanian travel agents since 14th October 1980 (under the Societies ordinance, 1954) when its predecessor, the East African Society of Travel Agents, which had been in existence for 22 years was disbanded due to the collapse of the East African Community.

TASOTA works to enhance and improve the Travel Industry business climate in Tanzania by promoting the services of its members to the general public, protecting their rights, and assisting them to optimize their businesses

TASOTA has over 40 active members who are IATA accredited. All these members are bound by TASOTA’s constitution and Code of Ethical & Professional Standards.

 

OBJECTIVES

The Tanzania Association of Travel Agents (TASOTA) has several objectives, which include:

  1. To promote and develop the travel industry in Tanzania: TASOTA aims to promote the travel industry in Tanzania by providing a platform for travel agents to collaborate, network, and share knowledge and resources.
  2. To promote high standards of professionalism and ethics in the travel industry: TASOTA seeks to enhance the professionalism of travel agents in Tanzania by setting high standards of conduct and providing training and development opportunities to its members.
  3. To protect the interests of travel agents: TASOTA advocates for the interests of travel agents in Tanzania by lobbying the government and other stakeholders to create a conducive environment for the travel industry to thrive.
  4. To protect the interests of consumers: TASOTA has established a system to protect consumers from unscrupulous travel agents. The association has put in place a code of ethics that all its members must adhere to, and it has a dispute resolution mechanism to address any complaints from consumers.
  5. To promote collaboration and networking among travel agents: TASOTA aims to facilitate collaboration and networking among its members and with other stakeholders in the travel industry to enhance the competitiveness of the industry in Tanzania.

The Tanzania Society of Travel Agents (TASOTA) has had significant impacts on the travel industry in Tanzania. Here are some of the impacts of TASOTA:

  1. Promotion of tourism: TASOTA has played a critical role in promoting Tanzania as a tourist destination. The association has organized various marketing and promotional campaigns to attract more visitors to Tanzania.
  2. Improved professionalism: TASOTA has helped improve travel agents’ professionalism in Tanzania. The association has set high standards for its members, and it has provided training and development opportunities to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
  3. Consumer protection: TASOTA has established a system to protect consumers from unscrupulous travel agents. The association has put in place a code of ethics that all its members must adhere to, and it has a dispute resolution mechanism to address any complaints from consumers. This has enhanced consumer confidence in the travel industry in Tanzania.
  4. Advocacy: TASOTA has been actively involved in advocating for the interests of travel agents in Tanzania. The association has lobbied the government to create a conducive environment for the travel industry to thrive. This has led to the formulation of policies and regulations that support the growth of the travel industry in Tanzania.

 

TASOTA is currently led by Mr. Moustafa Khataw who was elected as the Chairman in June 2021.
