What We Do

1. Policy Advocacy

  • Engagements with IATA

AESATA is at the forefront of advocating for the rights and interests of travel agents across Eastern and Southern Africa. We strategically engage with industry partners like the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of travel agents are effectively represented and addressed.

As a proactive advocate, AESATA participates in policy discussions, offering evidence-based arguments and practical solutions that reflect the real-world needs of travel agents. We act as a conduit of information, relaying updates from IATA to our members, and empowering them to make informed decisions. Through joint initiatives, AESATA collaborates with IATA on projects that align with mutual goals, leveraging their combined expertise to catalyze positive change within the travel industry.

With a commitment to effective lobbying and representation, AESATA ensures that travel agents’ voices are heard in various industry forums and negotiations, ultimately fostering an environment where travel agents’ contributions are recognized, valued, and protected.

  • Advocating for Intra-Africa Travel: Engaging with AfCFTA

At AESATA we actively engage with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on matters that directly impact the travel industry and facilitate business opportunities for travel agents. With a focus on promoting intra-Africa travel, AESATA’s engagements with AfCFTA are multifaceted.

Enhancing Air Connectivity: AESATA champions the expansion of air connectivity across the African continent. By collaborating with AfCFTA, we advocate for policies and initiatives that facilitate seamless and efficient air travel between nations. Our goal is to have a robust network that links diverse destinations, enabling both business and leisure travel, and providing travel agents with a broader array of offerings.

Advocating for a Single Passport: AESATA actively supports the implementation of a single African passport. This visionary concept has the potential to revolutionize travel by eliminating many of the barriers that currently restrict movement. By championing this cause, we advocate for travel agents to benefit from simplified travel logistics and a more fluid exchange of visitors, promoting tourism growth and collaboration.

Developing Air Transport Infrastructure: AESATA recognizes that a strong travel industry hinges on well-developed air transport infrastructure. Through our engagements with AfCFTA, we advocate for investments in airports, aviation facilities, and related infrastructure that ensure efficient travel experiences for all. Improved infrastructure not only enhances travel agents’ offerings but also stimulates economic growth in the broader tourism sector.

Mitigating Visa Restrictions: AESATA advocates for streamlined visa procedures and reduced restrictions within the AfCFTA framework. By pushing for simplified visa processes, we aim to encourage travel agents to create diverse travel packages that span multiple destinations, enhancing intra-Africa travel options and driving business opportunities for agents.
