ETHIOPIAN TRAVEL AGENTS’ ASSOCIATION (ETAA)

Ethiopian Travel Agents’ Association(ETAA) is a professional association of travel agents operating in Ethiopia. The Association was established in 1986 EC (1993 GC) as Tourist & Travel Agents Employers Association & later registered & recognized as Ethiopian Travel Agents Association in 1998 EC (2005 GC). It represents the majority of IATA Accredited Agents.

Objectives

  • To accomplish any function necessary to preserve the benefit of members with the view to alleviate their problems & help each other in common.
  • To encourage and induce the growth of the industry.
  • To develop cooperation between members, to lead and help the Travel Industry through good ethical standards.
  • To be engaged in important legislative & regulatory issues that affect Travel Agencies.
  • To encourage members to abide by the Code of Ethics (Conduct) established by the Association to offer efficient & reliable fare quotations & travel information to the public.
  • To provide counseling and business information to members.
  • To elect delegates to participate in APJC Ethiopia meetings (Agency Program Joint Council) to propose IATA regulation that governs Travel Agents in Ethiopia.
  • To mediate & resolve misunderstandings that may arise between IATA & members.
  • To create a close working relationship with the Ministry of Culture & Tourism.
  • To create a close working relationship with Airlines.
  • To provide relevant information on Tax matters.
  • To arrange awareness training on new IATA & other relevant regulations & assist in the required compliance process.
  • To assist new Travel Agents on the advisory level in processing IATA Accreditation.

Achievements

  • Advocacy for Travel Agents: ETAA has been successful in advocating for the interests of its members and improving the business environment for travel agents in Ethiopia. The association has been involved in various activities such as lobbying for policy changes, representing the interests of its members in discussions with government officials, and negotiating with airlines to improve the conditions of travel agents.
  • Capacity Building: ETAA has been involved in training and capacity-building programs for its members to improve their skills and knowledge in the travel industry. The association has conducted several training programs on various topics, such as ticketing, tour packaging, and customer service. ETAA has also organized workshops and seminars on important industry topics, such as sustainable tourism and travel technology.
